Allante Lumas, M.A.

3rd Year Doctoral Student

Doctoral Practicum Student in School Psychology

Supervised by Dr. Robyn Richardson

I am a practicum student pursuing a doctoral degree in school psychology at Texas Woman’s University. I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from University of Michigan and then went on to earn my Master of Arts and Specialist in School Psychology degrees from University of Detroit Mercy. My journey towards becoming a Licensed Psychologist provides me with a unique understanding in working with children, adolescents, and young adults as well as parents and families to navigate the school system and higher education. I have experience in conducting psychological, neuropsychological, and academic assessment, therapy, consultation, and behavioral interventions.

I work from an integrative approach, emphasizing multi-cultural, relational, interpersonal, and family systems practices in therapy and counseling. I believe the key to an effective healing environment is high quality therapeutic relationships with each client. The client-counselor relationship is the vehicle of change that will provide a safe environment for healing to begin and occur. Each client will be met with empathy and unconditional positive regard. Using Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy and Solution Focused Therapy, with a strength-based lens, I aim to help seek out and build upon the strength’s individuals have within themselves while addressing life’s difficulties. I also include techniques such as activity and play to provide fun and engaging ways to dive deeper into individuals’ thoughts and behaviors.

I believe that everyone has a story and the more we can own our stories, the more choice and control we have over writing the next chapters. Every person is unique and special, and I am committed to providing avenues for expression, self-exploration, and growth in a welcoming and supporting environment. I enjoy working with individuals of all ages with issues related to parenting skills, anxiety, depression and other mood disorders, oppositional behavior, anger management, self-esteem/self-concept, learning disabilities and ADHD, Autism, and complex medical issues. In my spare time, I enjoy fitness and spending time with my sons, riding horses, and fishing.
